Angola
A woman and her young child make their way to a refugee camp near Cuemba, Angola after fleeing UNITA held areas.
Photographs were taken during the beginning of the famine crisis as the long civil war between UNITA and the Angolan government wound down. Shortly after the photographs were taken Jonas Savimbi, the UNITA leader was killed, and UNITA and the Government agreed to a ceasefire. The Photographs show mostly the effects of war on Kuito and the surrounding Bie Province as well as the exodus of people into the province fleeing UNITA areas.
